Destination : Bangkok, Thailand (25 Apr 08 - 27 Apr 08)

I know it’s almost 2010 but I’ve got to start somewhere and Bangkok seems like a good place as any, in fact this should be marked as one of the best holidays ever.

I am not kidding.

Bangkok has always been known as one of the best cities to spend your money on and in fact, it really is because everything is dirt cheap.

Inah and I arrived at SuvarnabhumI Airport at night that particular Friday. Smooth flight, no delays, it was a good enough sign that BKK was going to be fun. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by a group of cab drivers, with hopes that they would get business from us. As we had not made any pick up arrangement with the hotel, we picked one and allowed him to drive us to Prince Palace Hotel, located next to Bo Bae Tower, Damrongrak Road.

As luck had it, we bumped into Karl, Tom and Khalid at the lobby. They had already checked in on our behalf as the five of us were sharing an apartment. Karl and Tom got the biggest bedroom, Khalid slept on his own in one room and Inah and I shared a room with twin beds.

Our rooms were cosy and spacious, beds were of the right comfort and it was worth the money that we paid for. I think.

We stayed in that night.

The next morning, woke up fairly early for breakfast before we headed down to the famous Chatchuchak market. As most of the stalls were closed rather early, we were already up by nine, had to rush through our breakfast before we squeezed into a cab to drive us there.

For those who have never been there, Chatchuchak is shopping heaven. It has the widest and cheapest range of women’s and men’s wear. I bagged a whole plastic full on the first day itself. However, it’s only open on weekends and it closes at five or earlier.

When we felt like we had covered the whole area, we took a tuk-tuk to Pratunam. We were both famished from all that walking and so we took a break for a bit. A meal at KFC, manicure & pedicure session for Inah and leg massage for me; that did it.

We continued our journey to Platinum Fashion Mall but by then, most of the shops were closed as well. We bought whatever we could get and went back to our hotel.

Strangely, none of us felt like partying that night. Instead, we continued shopping at Khao San Road where the night market was operating. I went for more massages while Inah snapped photos of my ugly contented self in dreamland as the masseuse kneaded my back. Heavenly! A sumptuous dinner that consisted of Tom Yam and some dishes that I cannot remember by now completed our night.

The next morning, Inah and I packed our bags before we headed out to Platinum Fashion Mall. We were leaving that night and we had a lot more shopping to be done that day.

I got a lot of good deals at the Mall, cheap is an understatement altogether. More bags for me and Inah, the heavier our luggage.

When the weight of our shopping bags got the better of us, we decided to call it a day. We had to rush to the airport anyway and there was very little time left for us to pack our newly bought stuffs.

Thankfully, everything went as planned. We were early for checking in, we had time for dinner BUT our flight was delayed.

I truly enjoyed Bangkok. The gracious people, the awesome food and of course the shopping.

BKK, wait up. I’m coming back. DEFINITELY!
